Fentiman’s Ginger Ale and Ginger Beer

let’s begin

Fentiman’s have been around for over 100 years, and are still creating unique and exciting beverages.

They have an innovative way of infusing their drinks with ginger and botanicals, to give them a different edge and really make them stand out from competitors.

They are in-keeping with the long traditions of botanical brewing, as they refer to it, that has gone before them. This has certainly served them well and they’re drinks are still massively popular, over 100 years later.

The original recipe for Fentiman’s Ginger Beer came into the hands of Thomas Fentiman after it was used as collateral for a loan. When the loan was not repaid, he took the recipe, made the beer and began selling it door to door.

That was in 1905, and today the company is still owned by the same family and still uses the same processes to make their products. Of course they have modernised, but the traditions on which Fentimans were founded are still there.

They also produce a lot more than just Ginger Beer and have a range that includes soft drinks, mixers, craft beer and pre-mixed Gin & Tonics.

The two products that really stand out are their Ginger Beer and Ginger Ale.

These are available as mixers and are the perfect companion for your favourite tipple, either simply as a mixer or in a cocktail.

Their Ginger Beer is rich and strong, with lots of heat and spice. It is made using Chinese ginger root and certainly packs a lot of flavour.

This is not a Ginger Beer that shies away from its true nature. Rather, it fully embraces the warmth and fullness of spice that Ginger Beer should have.

This is the perfect mixer to really heat up any drink. Fentimans themselves recommend it with Havana 7 Rum and a squeeze of lime, to create a drink that will have you feeling like you’re walking on sandy beaches in no time.

Their Ginger Ale is also a popular mixer and is made from Chinese Ginger as well.

It is not over-powering, but has a subtler ginger note than the beer. The flavour is there, but with a slightly more delicate nature.

The heat is present but is complemented with a delicious orange and cinnamon flavour. These are sweet and herbal, giving the ale a nice depth and sophistication to it.

It is recommended to go with vodka and a splash of apple juice, to bring out more of the tang and flavour…

This also happens to be one of my favourites for summer; Fentiman’s Ginger Ale… so lovely, refreshing and spicy. The whisky? More often than not I use Jameson, but also Auchentoshan Three Wood. Fantastic stuff.
