Iconic whisky bar experiences series: Blind Pig, London

let’s begin

I have a confession to make; despite being a devout born and bred Londoner, I rarely get around to checking out the iconic and best cocktail bars in this great city, this series of articles aims to readdress that. This week is the Blind Pig.

Who is not a big fan of traditional, American-inspired speakeasies? I love them.

I was first alerted to The Blind Pig whilst judging the Wild Turkey Cocktail Competition in 2014, Kyle created a fantastic cocktail and seemed like a great chap so figured that it was worth a visit, I’m very glad I did!

On a designated ‘London Day’, my wife, one of her school friends and myself headed to The Blind Pig to see what all the fuss was about.

We entered through a ‘secret door’ with a blindfolded pig’s head where the door knocker traditionally would be then walked along a corridor with illuminated decanters and headed upstairs to find a traditional speakeasy with banquets, tables and a long bar with around four stations.

I said hello to Kyle and did what I usual do; read through the entire menu then ask the mixologist to recommend or create something whisky-based full of power and flavour.

He did not disappoint.

Kirsty and Sarah ordered from the menu and every cocktail was simply brilliant. We enjoyed the popcorn garnishes, the Cereal Killer, the camping mug drinking vessels, and various other details. It had the look and feel akin to Hawksmoor but delivered it in an authentic way that felt full of prohibition and fun.

Cocktails range from around £9 to £11 so won’t break the bank and will definitely give you an evening of drinks to remember. Make sure you try the house prawn crackers from the snack menu too – brilliant
