My first month as a whisky blogger

let’s begin

Great Drams is the product of about two years of saying ‘I should write about one of my biggest passions’ and at first wanting to jump in and open a whisky bar in the suburbs of West London. So what are my thoughts after my first month as a whisky blogger? Was it worth it?

Simple answer: Hell yeah!

More detailed answer?

I have been blogging for quite a while, in fact my other, work-related blog (http://Strat-Talking.com) is up for a national blogging award in April which I’m sure I will be telling you all about. That blog is a lot different to this one in that it is about what I do; thoughtpieces around branding, brand strategy, freelance life and how to build a freelance business – all of which, not wishing to sound like I have an ego but, I’m an expert in.

Whisky though? What the hell do I know about whisky?!

Turns out that’s not really the point, what is more important is how I think, how I feel and how I enjoy something that I’ve been interested in since seeing my father enjoying the delights of whisky years ago.

In 14 short days I have learned that if you have a passion, and are able to articulate your thoughts around it, and are willing to put yourself out there… you will be rewarded.

A few years ago I met a lovely chap called John who happens to be a brand ambassador for the Scotch Malt Whisky Society. We tweet fairly often, email from time to time, chat brands and whisky when we can and occasionally see each other at whisky events.

But when I announced my foray into the world of whisky blogging, things changed.

I was invited to an exclusive whisky blogger event at SMWS and from there have met some incredible people, many of whom I already consider to be friends, albeit primarily virtually for now, and have been tweeting me since.

I have received nothing but support and interest in what I’m doing and have a few brands knocking on the ol’ door asking about how we can work together.

This is a pretty long winded way of saying that I am overwhelmed with the support, the intrigue, the chat and the positivity that I’ve received from the whisky blogger world in the last couple of weeks and am so happy that I’ve made the leap further into a world that I love and that I think we will enjoy together.
