World Whisky Day & The Royal Wedding 2018

let’s begin

What does the Royal Wedding 2018 and FA Cup Final day have in common? They are both on World Whisky Day. Coincidence? We think not.

Here at GreatDrams we can spot strategic planning a mile off, and Harry’s choice of date for his big day makes total sense, as if he even needed an excuse to raise a few whiskies that evening.

We think there are five spirits perfect for pairing with the happy couple’s momentous day.

  1. For Harry it makes sense that he would want something mature, robust and full of heritage, such is the royal family’s grandeur, so probably a Craigellachie 23 Year Old which hails from John Dewar & Sons, holders of the Queen’s Royal Warrant
  2. For Meghan we feel that it would only be right that her now-former residence in Canada is celebrated, especially as there are so many fantastic whiskies hailing from Canada, so we have chosen one of the newer craft distilleries, Dillon’s Rye, their first release and one that is already wonderful for its age
  3. To represent Chelsea FC in the FA Cup Final we have chosen Beefeater Gin & light tonic as the original premises for the brand, then called ‘James Burrough, Distiller and Importer of Foreign Liqueurs’ was originally located in 56 Cale Street in Chelsea (tenuous? Nah)
  4. For Manchester United’s representation in the FA Cup Final we have chosen Manchester Three Rivers Gin, hailing from Red Bank, in the shadow of Angel Meadow and in the heart of the city and with a refreshing flavour profile too, best served with Fentiman’s Pink Grapefruit tonic.
  5. And one signature serve for the day; a 50ml measure of Laphroaig, which after all has the Royal Warrant of his father, topped up with 100ml Irn Bru, because Harry’s day would be nothing without something ginger to raise a toast with

Hopefully that has given you some libation inspiration for Harry & Meghan’s big day, now tell me what you’ll be sipping on for the
