How to Make a Stunning Whisky Cocktail in 3 Easy Steps

let’s begin

Cocktails are one of the best ways to spice up your old favourites and have fun at the same time.

Rather drinking the same thing over and over again, why not make a really fantastic cocktail using your favourite drinks?

The great thing about cocktails is that they don’t have to be complicated or take long to make. They can be whipped up in minutes and still be massively impressive.

And they can really add another dimension to how you enjoy your typical drams.

One of the most popular Whisky based cocktails is the Whisky Sour. This is a simple yet effective drink, with only three basic ingredients.

It is all about getting the right balance between the sugar and lemon, with the Whisky playing the perfect base for these flavours to bounce off one another.

The Whisky gives this cocktail a delicious depth that will have you wondering why you don’t drink Sours more often!

Here’s how to make one is three easy steps.

  1. First, get your favourite dram, but maybe not one that is top shelf. Go for something like a smoky blended Scotch or a Bourbon that will give a nice flavour profile to compliment the sweetness sugar and sourness of the lemon juice.
  2. Squeeze a lemon and add it to the Whisky. A general rule for Whisky Sours is to have them at a 2:1:1 ratio in order of Whisky: Lemon: Sugar, so enough lemon juice should be no more than about half of your measure of Whisky. This ratio is not strict and can be experimented with and some people would recommend adding a dash more Whisky.
  1. Pour over a sugar cube until it is dissolved or shake together with simple syrup. If you don’t have either of these then a spoonful of sugar, or even honey, will do just fine. The key at this stage is to ensure that everything is well mixed together. The perfect Whisky Sour will be packed with competing flavours that you can decipher in every sip, and be made in only three simple steps.

If you’re trying to be advanced, crack in an egg white and shake; will add a creaminess to the mouthfeel, but this does take practice so consider it the next step once you’ve mastered the first three.
